In 1977-78, Wayland Flowers, with his puppet Madame, was a regular on THE NEW Laugh-In, a revival of the popular sketch comedy series ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN, with producer George Schlatter at the helm. This compilation takes the best moments from the series with guest appearances by Frank Sinatra, Bea Arthur, Tina Turner and Joan Rivers, and a special appearance by another of his puppets, Jiffy.
Wayland Flowers was often referred to as a ventriloquist, but he made no effort to hide the fact that he was voicing his characters. He preferred the term illusionist because he would draw the attention of an audience to his puppets, as they did most of the talking. He became known for his funny double entendres, witty comebacks, and recycled vaudevillian jokes, which became the foundation for Madame's act.
