After paying tribute to Tina Turner at the 2023 BET Awards but mispronouncing the song's lyrics, Patti LaBelle has come forward.
At the 23rd BET Awards last Saturday (June 23), famous soul singer Patti Labelle sang her own version of "The Best" in memory of the late performer.
She had a misstep on stage though when she yelled, "I can't see the words and I don't know," since she couldn't see the lyrics on the teleprompter. I'm trying, you guys. She persisted, then cried out, "God bless you, Tina Turner."
Turner was praised by LaBelle when she announced her tribute performance at the BET Awards, calling her "a trailblazer and someone I have a tremendous amount of respect for because of all that she overcame and all that she accomplished."
LaBelle was one of many celebrities that paid their condolences to the great when Turner passed away.
Others in the music industry paid tribute to Tina Turner after hearing the news of her passing. Beyoncé wrote a touching ode to Turner and included her own rendition of his 1966 smash song "River Deep, Mountain High" on her "Reinassance" tour. 'What's Love Got To Do With It' was performed in Atlanta by Paramore's Hayley Williams in honor of the Tennessee singer.
