Erwin Bach's proposal was accepted by Tina Turner after a 23-year wait. Seven years after she finalized her divorce from abuser Ike Turner, who subjected her to beatings, mental torment, and sex that she claimed felt like rape, the late "Private Dancer" singer first met the German music producer, in 1985.

In her frank autobiography "My Love Story," Tina described how the relationship left her so traumatized that she refused Erwin's initial proposal: "More than anything, I needed to know that Erwin loved me. So he did. He actually did.He proposed to me in 1989, the year I was about to turn 50. I wasn't sure how I felt about marriage, though. In my experience, marriage may change things—and not always for the better.

In her memoir, Tina Turner noted that she spent the following few years living with Erwin in Cologne and at a home she had purchased in the South of France. at 1995, when he was selected to lead the EMI office in Switzerland, she accompanied him.

We relocated to the Château Algonquin, a vintage home on Lake Zurich, she recalled. I felt great. Never had I smoked or used drugs. I had been working out for the stage for 50 years and was still in good shape. I kept looking.

According to Tina, Erwin re-proposed to her in 2012, and she "answered with an empathetic 'Yes!'"

The woman continued, "It was a commitment that didn't come easily to me, but I knew he was the love of my life."

Erin cared for Tina through a stroke that struck her the year they got married, in 2013, and was at her side when she passed away on May 24 in their 10-building, $76 million compound in Switzerland due to natural causes.

He also performed a life-saving kidney transplant on the "What's Love Got to Do With It" actress after she had battled kidney problems for years.
